Advanced Thermal Systems, Inc. is a world leader in the design and manufacturing of packed slip type expansion joints and ball joints; as well as low friction pipe supports and guides. Since it's founding in 1968, ATS has been recognized as the "Industry Innovator" in the design and development of packed type flexible expansion joints and ball joints. Essentially all technical improvements to both slip and ball type expansion joints since 1968 have been introduced by ATS.

The ATS manufacturing facility is located in Lancaster, New York. All of the items produced by ATS are manufactured at this facility including all forming, machining and welding. ATS maintains a large inventory of pre-machined components that can quickly be assembled when a short delivery is required.

At ATS our Engineering staff utilizes the latest computer technologies and software to review and optimize each system and component. CAEPipe Pipe Stress Analysis software, as well as AutoCAD are used extensively.

ATS THERMAL PAK EXPANSION JOINTS

ATS packed slip type expansion joints provide an economical, safe, and reliable method of absorbing large amounts of axial pipe expansion and are the ideal choice for systems with long straight pipe runs.  Expansion of up to 12" is standard in pipe sizes ranging from 1-1/2" to 24" NPS. Special configurations are available to accommodate as much as 24" of expansion in both single and double (48" total) expansion joints for service conditions to 1000 psig at 750°F.  For expansions greater than 24" contact ATS Engineering Department.

ATS Thermal Pak expansion joints employ the latest technology and are designed to meet the requirements of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code as well as the ASTM F1007 Specification covering packed slip type expansion joints.

STANDARD TP2 THERMAL PAK JOINTS INCLUDE SUCH SPECIAL FEATURES AS:

  • A high performance injectable packing which is suitable for operation at temperatures up to 1000°F.
  • Low friction nonmetallic internal and external guides to offer further protection of the hard chrome plated sliding slip.
  • Packing cylinder designs that allow in service packing of the joint and uninterrupted process at pressures up to 1000 psig.
  • ATS Type TP2 Thermal Pak Expansion Joints are certified by Pittsburgh Testing Laboratory to be steam leak-free for 25,000 cycles of the joint at 400 psig.
  • Combined with Advanced Thermal Systems years of experience and broad engineering and manufacturing backgrounds, these features ensure our customers of getting the best and most reliable equipment for their applications.

ATS THERMAL PAK FLEXIBLE BALL JOINTS

  • ATS packed ball joints provide an economical, safe, and reliable method of absorbing large amounts of single and multiple plane displacements including rotation.  Ball joints are an ideal choice for systems with vertical pipe runs and/or natural offsets. Ball Joints are available in sizes ranging from 3/4" to 30" for service conditions of up to 1000 psig at 750°F.  ATS designed ball joints can accommodate 15° to 33° of angular flex and 360° of rotation. ATS Thermal Pak ball joints employ the latest technology and are designed to meet the requirements of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code as well as the ASTM F1298 Specification covering packed ball type expansion joints.

STANDARD BALL JOINTS INCLUDE SUCH SPECIAL FEATURES AS:

  • A high performance injectable packing which is suitable for operation at temperatures up to 1000°F.
  • Packing cylinder designs that allow in service packing of the joint and uninterrupted process at pressures up to 1000 psig.
  • ATS Series P2 and S2 ball joints are designed using a patented integral socket/retainer design that eliminates the in-service field error of over tightening the flange bolting or retainer cap.
  • Ball joint systems provide cost savings advantages by providing for movement in two or more planes simultaneously, by allowing more movement in less space, and by reducing the number and size of system anchors.
  • Combined with Advanced Thermal Systems years of experience and broad engineering and manufacturing backgrounds, these features ensure our customers of getting the best and most reliable equipment for their applications.

ATS LOW FRICTION GUIDES AND SUPPORTS

  • ATS Low Friction Graphite Guides and Supports provide the most dependable pipe support systems available.  Proper use of ATS Low Friction Graphite Guides and Supports will provide trouble free service for the life of the piping system.  Sizes ranging from 1" to 24" are available in both non-insulated and pre-insulated designs with either bolt down or weld bases.  ATS Low Friction Guides are designed to accommodate a total of 8" of axial pipe movement.  The Low Friction Supports will handle the same 8" of axial movement plus ±3" of lateral movement.  Greater axial and lateral displacements can be accommodated with special designs. Low Friction graphite (1/2" thick) with a compressive strength of 2000 psi is used on both the upper and lower assemblies thus providing a low coefficient of friction between the sliding surfaces (f=0.15).  ATS Low Friction Guides and Supports can be provided for systems with operating temperatures of up to 750°F.

Special ATS guides and supports can be readily designed to meet your specific requirements.  Larger pipe sizes and/or insulation thickness' can be easily accommodated. Consult ATS Engineering with your specific application.
